Hi. I read a lot of books and bum around a lot of wikis so I though I should set up camp here. I'm an occassional contributor at this point; I'm quite busy over at
[Wikipedia]. You can see
[my page there] if you want to know more about me.
Recommended Books for a Beginning Programmer
I'm working toward a computer science degree (slowly but surely). I'm doing very well in my courses, but I have the feeling that I'm being prepared to be a worker in an industry, rather than a good programmer. I'm certainly not opposed to being employable, of course, but I don't intend to develop Java-based buzzwords all my life. So, programming gurus, help me out. What books do you recommend for the beginning programmer?

Hi Stephen ! Very glad to have you here. I think you're the first person "from" Wikipedia to get off the bus and make a home here... insofar, that is, as any of us are "from" virtual places which are no more than wisps of the imagination. -- LaurentBossavit
I see AstroNomer came over too. There's been some interest recently about adding more subjective book reviews to Wikipedia; I've suggested that people check out Bookshelved. -- StephenGilbert
- Ah, EdPoor and ClaudineChionh have popped over too... and Tarquin... I should start a travelling Wikipedian list. -- SG
