I used to enjoy
IainBanks. His latest have left me fairly cold. As far as i know he's been under contract for some time, one book a year, alternating "M" and "non-M". His quality has suffered. TheBusiness
? was bad, and not only that, this:
- it is slimmer that Whit? (comparing both hardbacks)
- the page margins are about 1cm wider -- the text looks like a small block sitting in the page, rather than filling it. it's slightly ludicrous
- to add insult to injury, the font size is larger too
If that's not a publisher desperately padding out the latest slim pickings, I don't know what is.
Though his latest, DeadAir? has him back on form. -- Tarquin
