DanielPennac, French novelist.

Wrote the Malaussene series of detective novels, slightly tongue-in-cheek, featuring Benjamin Malaussene, professional scapegoat, his huge clan of siblings, all by different fathers, and his extended family in the Parisian micro-village of Belleville.

  1. AuBonheursDesOgres?
  2. LaFeeCarabine?
  3. La petite marchande de prose
  4. Monsieur Malaussene

After that the series fragments a little... in number 3 Malaussene is apparently killed (but revived later). In 4 things go even further.

He also wrote CommeUnRoman?, which among other things sets out the inalienable rights of the author ... and of the reader.

Pennac's "reader's rights" :

  1. The right not to read.
  2. The right to skip pages.
  3. The right to not finish.
  4. The right to reread.
  5. The right to read anything.
  6. The right to escapism.
  7. The right to read anywhere.
  8. The right to browse.
  9. The right to read out loud.
  10. The right to not defend your tastes.
